Born on March 4, 1968, Olivier Pestiaux ‘accidentally’ made an automatic drawing in a black notebook. It was not until a few days later that he became aware of the content of his drawing: a falling car, a depiction of a tragic accident that had occurred a few months earlier. In response to the shock that this produced, he resolved to buy fifty red notebooks. The activity of filling the notebooks commenced with a set of promises: to forbid nothing, never to tear out a page, and to stay close to the instinctive gesture.
